Marilyn,
I just logged on to your site in hopes of contacting you. I'm the person who had the Tumwater Hill labyrinth in my back yard. As I mentioned to you, United Churches (at 11th and Capitol) has a labyrinth walk every 1st Sunday at 6:00 pm in the chapel. Also, there's a laybrinth walk in the Social Hall on the 1st Friday at 5:30ish. The Chapel laby is Santa Rosa; the Social Hall is Chartre.

I would love to meet with you to talk about the next United Churches project---an outdoor labyrinth! Anyway--if you're open to talking about this I would love to have coffee with you or tea or whatever.

I am intriegued by your idea of an on-going creative process....

Thanks again for your very creative installation!

Yikes, this blog just wiped out my comments, and I don't think I can recreate everything I said, so I'll be brief.

We haven't talked for a while, so I wasn't aware you were working on this project. It's nice to see how your experience with the spiritual community you've been working with impacts your art practice. I enjoyed the videos and the collaborations with other artists, and this post was my favorite because of the way you honored your Aunt and Mother. You did good, friend.

Marilyn,
Wow! I found you through Nancy's postings. You're speaking of work that gives mine a context. I've not photographed my beach labyrinths....... And to know what to cherish and what to let go is my task of the moment. Creating safe space, sacred space, spaces for renewal. Lives in renewal.

Nancy, thanks for visiting this site and following my work. I know what you mean about sacred art and pornography! Well said! I'm reading lots of books these days on religion in contemporary art, blasphemy, religious visual culture, and post-modern heretics. Amazing material. I don't know if this work I'm making is sacred, but I'm sure the steps toward it are profane!
What is up with you all in PT and the incredible guests? I just visited a Maya Lin installation here on the Long Beach Peninsula where I've been staying. I refer to it in Labyrinth Day 24 - at the following entry -

Marilyn

The labyrinths are multi layered and work on so many levels, from personal soul work to public gifts. This is sacred art you are making.

In considering what is sacred art (in case I will ever try to make any of this sort) it's kinda of like pornography: i know it when i see it. Sacred art at my best explanation is the making with the intention that defines sacred from secular.

In our G1 lecture with Ms Boutet on sacred art, I made the comment that its the journey that is sacred, even if the steps that construe it are profane.

Love you. Love your work. Thank you for coming out to see us. (Next residency rumor is Maya Lin may be our guest speaker. I want you at PT!)

To Marilyn:

Eyes fill with joy and overwhelm,
as you focus our light toward us.

A common breath, and whisper
... thank you.

generous friend,
remarkable artist,
saint among humans:

your hand passes
a blessing over the blood.

Communion was never so salty.
We taste the sweet sea in our mouths.

never was communion administered
with such grit from a compassionate priest.

We pause:
honored and blessed

to walk
this labyrinth with you.

We love you,
Kris and Patrice
